Dyrham Park is a National Trust property set in a large ancient deer park, with a baroque country house at its heart. Families can walk the rolling parkland, where a herd of fallow deer roams, and follow the paths down to the formal garden with its ponds, wildflower orchard and wooded terraces. The house has rooms furnished to show what life was like in the 1600s, and there is a play area with an adventure element in the parkland at Old Lodge, which also has a café and picnic tables. Seasonal trails and activities for children run in the school holidays, and there are pre-school sessions on some weekdays in spring and summer. Part of the site is steep and uneven, so buggies and wheelchairs may find some routes hard going, although the house ground floor and the garden are reached by level access. It suits a relaxed family outing that mixes history with open-air space to run about.

Play area at Old Lodge in the parkland open all year; cafe at Old Lodge open daily March to October and in school holidays, weekends only in term time November to February. Term-time pre-school sessions on Tuesdays March to October. Family trails in school holidays and seasonal Christmas trails.
