Winchcombe Museum occupies the upper floors of the old Town Hall in the centre of this Cotswold town. Displays cover the town's story from its prehistoric and Roman past through its abbey, medieval town maces and wool trade, up to the present day. A highlight for many visitors is the display of fragments of the Winchcombe meteorite, which landed nearby in 2021. The museum also holds a police memorabilia collection, so older children who enjoy uniforms and old equipment can spend a while looking around. Children are welcome, and there are hands-on activities such as making clay models and mosaic pictures, plus a try-out for an old American harmonium. The building has a lift to the upstairs rooms, and the Undercroft gift shop sells sweets and gifts. The visit suits a rainy afternoon or a stop on a walk around the town.
