What’s there
- Limited parking
Blue badge parking only on site beside the museum; other visitors can park for the day in the Egypt Mill car park (register number plate inside Egypt Mill on arrival).
Only facilities we’ve confirmed are listed — anything missing here we simply haven’t checked, rather than know to be absent.
Dunkirk Mill Museum sits at the end of a riverside walk from Egypt Mill in Nailsworth, down a former railway track past a restored mill pond. It is run by the Stroudwater Textile Trust and is an accredited museum of the Stroud Valleys woollen industry. The highlight for families is the large overshot waterwheel, which drives historic finishing machinery when the stream allows, so children can see the wheel start to turn and the machines work. Guides demonstrate how cloth was finished after leaving the loom, and an early cross-cutter and an exhibition on the site's development give more to look at. Visits are timed sessions lasting about three quarters of an hour and booking ahead is advised because numbers are limited. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Nailsworth's cafes are a short walk away for a break before or after the visit.
Seasonal: April to September. The waterwheel only runs on opening days and depends on water in the Nailsworth Stream.
