A small independent museum in a half-timbered 17th-century house in the centre of Tewkesbury. Its collection runs from Roman and prehistoric finds through to the medieval Battle of Tewkesbury, with a large diorama of the battle and a detailed model fairground with many figures. Families can also learn about Raymond Priestley, the Antarctic explorer associated with the town, and about the traditional Mop Fair. The building itself is full of original features and is an interesting place to explore. The museum describes itself as very child-friendly, with activities to keep younger visitors busy. Entry is free, and a visit of about an hour suits a family looking for an indoor stop while walking round the town. The rooms are small and the stairs are steep and uneven, so it suits visitors who can manage stairs.
