Castle Neroche is a managed forest in the Blackdown Hills, run by Forestry England, where families can walk woodland tracks up to earthworks left by an Iron Age hillfort and a later Norman motte and bailey castle. There is no castle standing today, so the appeal is the wooded hilltop, the views across the Vale of Taunton and the chance to explore the ramparts. Trails are not waymarked and some ascents are steep, so the paths close to the car park suit younger children and buggies less well on rough ground. The car park has picnic spots among the trees, and dogs are welcome on the trails. It suits a relaxed family walk, a picnic or an outdoor nature and history outing rather than a fixed attraction with set activities.
