Hestercombe Gardens is a historic garden on fifty acres just outside Taunton, presenting several centuries of garden design in one place. Visitors can wander the restored gardens at their own pace, with the gardens set out in different styles from different periods. Free children's trails run through the grounds, so younger visitors have a reason to explore. The restored house is open to the public and holds a contemporary art gallery and a second-hand bookshop. Food and drink are available on site, with a plant centre and gift shop by the car park, and dogs are welcome on a lead. It suits families who want a calm outing with room to walk, plus a chance to look inside a country house.
