The West Somerset Railway is a heritage line that runs steam and diesel trains along the Somerset coast and the edge of the Quantock Hills. Families ride period carriages between ten stations, so a day out can mean a single return trip or a longer ride broken up with stops at places such as Dunster, Blue Anchor and Watchet. Children tend to enjoy the engines and the old-fashioned journey, and the railway runs themed seasonal services through the year, including Christmas trains and a carol service at Minehead. A puzzle-style escape room experience is also offered as an event. The line suits railway enthusiasts as well as families looking for a relaxed day out in the open air. Services follow a seasonal timetable, so check the current calendar before setting off.
