A small, early Georgian cottage on Lime Street in Nether Stowey, once home to the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge during the years he wrote some of his best-known poems. The rooms are furnished as they might have looked in his time, with an old kitchen laid out for the household and an upstairs exhibition about his writing. Visitors are welcome to look closely at the objects and the house is known for being a more hands-on place than many National Trust properties. Outside, the cottage garden, wildflower meadow and orchard give children room to wander, with benches and audio stories along the way. A tearoom and small gift shop sit in the grounds. The house is compact, so it suits a short, gentle visit rather than a long day, and it is a relaxed way to introduce older children to history and poetry.
