Fulham Palace was the home of the Bishops of London for centuries, and today it is a museum and historic house set in a large botanic garden beside the Thames in south-west London. Families can explore the Tudor courtyard, the restored historic rooms and the museum, which traces the palace's story from Saxon times onwards. Free family trails for different age groups lead children through the rooms and out into the grounds. The garden covers many acres and includes a walled garden with glasshouses and a play area on the main lawn. Hands-on gardening workshops and themed family days run through the year, with extra sessions in school holidays. A café and a botanic garden that suits picnics make it easy to stay a long afternoon. It suits a relaxed visit with younger children as well as older ones who enjoy history.
