A family day out split across two buildings on Phoenix Place. Start at Mail Rail, the narrow-gauge postal railway that carried post under central London until 2003, where visitors take a short ride on a miniature train through the old tunnels. Across the road, the Postal Museum covers around five centuries of communication history through interactive exhibits, a mock-up mail train carriage where children can try sorting post, a restored mail coach, and rare stamps including the Penny Black. There is also a separate Postal Play Space that needs its own ticket. A café with highchairs sits in the welcome area. Booking ahead is advised, and the venue suggests planning two to three hours, or about four during school holidays.
Discovery Room (archive) open Wednesday to Friday and the second Saturday of each month, 10:00 to 16:30, by appointment for the archive.
