Facilities

The National Theatre sits on the South Bank beside the Thames and runs a busy programme across three stages: the large Olivier, the proscenium Lyttelton and the flexible Dorfman. Its productions include stage adaptations of children's classics, so older children can take in a show as well as the building. The most child-focused option is the guided theatre tour, a 75-minute walk through the carpentry, props and scenic painting workshops and into the auditoriums, with family tours aimed at children aged seven to eleven. Children under five are not admitted on guided tours, and children aged 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Free exhibitions in the foyers and the Sherling Backstage Walkway, which is open on set days, give more to see without a ticket. The building is an iconic Brutalist landmark close to Waterloo.
