The Royal Albert Hall is a large domed Victorian concert venue opposite Kensington Gardens, opened by Queen Victoria in 1871. Families can take a one-hour guided tour that goes behind the scenes, through the gallery, the royal areas and the auditorium, which suits older children and curious adults. The Hall also runs a Children and Families series in its smaller Elgar Room, with interactive shows, singalongs and baby-friendly concerts for the youngest visitors. Throughout the year the main auditorium hosts family-friendly matinees, film-with-orchestra nights and seasonal shows, and the Christmas programme is especially popular with children. Because it is a working venue, what is open on a given day depends on the performance diary, so families should check which tours and events are running before they travel.
