BFI IMAX stands on the South Bank just north of Waterloo station and is operated by the British Film Institute. Its single auditorium has the largest cinema screen in the UK, so films are shown on a very large picture with a powerful surround sound system. The programme ranges from the latest IMAX releases to alternative content and educational presentations. Families with older children and teenagers who enjoy big-screen spectaculars will find it a memorable outing, and it works as a shared film trip for the whole family. The cinema sits within the wider South Bank cultural area, so a film can easily be combined with a riverside walk or a visit to the other arts venues nearby. The venue also hires out the full auditorium for events.
