The Faraday Effect is one of London's smallest museums, tucked into a wooden hut beside the lighthouse at Trinity Buoy Wharf. It is an immersive installation recreating the workshop of the Victorian scientist Michael Faraday, who carried out lighthouse lens and electric lighting tests on the wharf for Trinity House. Inside, the space is decorated with antiques, found objects and fishing equipment, with sound recordings, explanatory notes and historic documents to read and look at. Visitors are encouraged to open doors and shutters to find out more about his childhood, his famous experiments and his time at the wharf. The visit is short and works well as a quick stop on a walk round the wharf, with the lighthouse, the red lightship and the container studios nearby. Because the structure is small and confined, it suits children who like poking into corners and lifting flaps, and it is worth checking access beforehand if someone uses a wheelchair.
