Brixton Windmill is a restored tower mill dating from 1816, set in a small park off Brixton Hill in south London. Guided tours climb through the building to see the original wind-powered machinery and the later millstones, and guides tell the story of the Ashby family who milled here. Children need to be at least 1.2 metres tall to go inside and under-14s must be with an adult, so it suits older children and families who enjoy history and hands-on machinery. Tours are short and run mainly on open weekends from spring to autumn, with some ground-floor interpretation for visitors who cannot manage the stairs. The mill is run by volunteers who still grind flour, and there are school workshops for nursery to Key Stage 2 pupils, a children's nature trail, and a wider programme of guided walks and events in the surrounding gardens.
