Leighton House was the home and studio of the Victorian painter Frederic, Lord Leighton, and is now run as a museum by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The highlight for most visitors is the Arab Hall, with its golden dome, mosaics and walls covered in Islamic tiles, and the rooms are furnished to show how a nineteenth-century artist lived and worked. Upstairs, the great studio shows the light and scale in which Leighton painted. The museum also runs temporary exhibitions and family workshops for children aged around five to ten, so it suits older children who enjoy art and history as well as adults. The visit is indoors and fairly short, and it pairs well with a walk through nearby Holland Park.
