The Clink Prison Museum is built on the original site of a medieval prison that is often described as among the oldest in England. It is a compact, interactive museum where visitors can see archaeological finds from the site, handle torture devices, and follow the stories of the people who were held there. Displays try to recreate the sights, sounds and smells of the prison, so it feels more like a hands-on experience than a traditional history room. Older children tend to enjoy the grim detail and the interactive exhibits, and the story-led approach suits families who like a bit of drama. The museum is small, so a visit is usually under an hour, and it pairs well with a walk along the Thames Path and a look at the nearby remains of Winchester Palace. It is set in the Bankside area of Southwark, a short walk from London Bridge.
