Burgh House is a historic house on New End Square in Hampstead village, close to Hampstead Heath. Built in 1704, it has panelled rooms to explore and a museum on the first floor that covers the history of Hampstead and the artists and writers who lived there. Families can wander the house and its garden at their own pace, and the museum offers children's trails from the front desk. There is a small café, and the house runs changing exhibitions, concerts and talks alongside its permanent displays. Entry to the house and museum is free, though some events are ticketed. It suits a relaxed visit of an hour or so, and pairs well with a walk on the Heath afterwards.
