The Tower of London is a medieval fortress, royal palace and former prison on the north bank of the Thames, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Crown Jewels are displayed in the Jewel House inside the grounds, where a newer exhibition explains the history of the regalia and the coronation procession, with objects such as the Imperial State Crown and St Edward's Crown on view. Families often combine the Jewel House with a Yeoman Warder guided tour, which covers the site's stories of royal prisoners and executions, and with a look at the famous ravens. The White Tower, the medieval walls and the chapel give older children plenty to explore, while younger ones tend to enjoy the ravens and the sheer scale of the grounds. The site has uneven, historic surfaces and is best visited with time to spare, as queues for the Jewel House can build up during busy periods.
