Oakwell Hall is a historic house museum set in a large country park on the edge of Birstall. The Elizabethan manor is furnished as a family home of the 1690s, and visitors can wander its rooms and look for the house's well-known ghost story. Children often enjoy the period gardens, the nature trails and the playground in the grounds, while the wider park offers space for a picnic or a walk. The estate also has a gift shop and a café, and the council runs school visits and family events through the year. The hall itself is open at set times, mainly at weekends in term time, so it is worth checking before a visit, though the park is open all the time.
