Middleton Railway is a volunteer-run heritage line in Hunslet, south Leeds, which describes itself as the world's oldest continuously working railway. Trains run from the Moor Road station into Middleton Park, a short, gentle ride that suits young children who enjoy steam engines and vintage carriages. At the park end, families can get off at Park Halt to walk the woodland paths and visit the playground, then catch a later train back. The Engine House at Moor Road holds a museum of locomotives, some of which visitors can get close to, plus displays on the railway's history and Leeds locomotive building. A cafe is inside the Engine House. Most running is at weekends and bank holidays, with school-holiday days and seasonal events such as Santa trains in December. A trial quiet morning, with lower lights and no audio, is held on one Saturday a month for visitors who find busy settings hard.
Regular running is seasonal; December has Santa Specials and late October has a Halloween service.
