The Duke of Wellington's Regiment Museum is housed on the ground floor of Bankfield Museum, a Victorian mansion set in Akroyd Park in Halifax. It traces the regiment's history from its formation in 1702 to its merger into the Yorkshire Regiment in 2006, and it tells the story of the soldiers who served in their own words. Displays include objects connected with the first Duke of Wellington, who was colonel of the regiment, and items from the campaigns of the 33rd and 76th Foot. Its military history, uniforms and medals will appeal most to older children and adults with an interest in the armed forces. Because it shares the building with Bankfield Museum, a visit can also take in the wider galleries on Halifax and Calderdale history, costume and toys, plus a small ground-floor tearoom and gift shop. Admission is free.
