Clevedon Court is a medieval manor house with a long family history, looked after by the National Trust and still partly lived in by the Elton family. The oldest parts of the house include a great hall and chapel, and the rooms on show hold a display of Eltonware pottery and a collection of Nailsea glass. Older children who enjoy stories about how houses were built and used over centuries will find plenty to look at, and the medieval setting makes a change from a standard day out. The terraced garden is set over several levels on a sheltered slope, with herbaceous borders and wide views towards the Mendip Hills, giving younger visitors space to wander after going round the house. Because the house is small and only partly open, a visit suits a relaxed afternoon rather than a full day, and it works well alongside a walk or a stop at the seafront in Clevedon.
