A small, free-entry museum in the ground floor annex of the Beach Hotel on The Avenue, a short walk from the West Somerset Railway station in Minehead. The collection tells the story of a town that grew from a working harbour into a Victorian and Edwardian seaside resort and then a holiday destination at the edge of Exmoor. Highlights include a full-size Minehead Hobby Horse, Punch and Judy puppets, a scale model and gate from the town's lost pier, and exhibits on the composer and writer Arthur C. Clarke, the railway and Minehead at war. Families with younger children often enjoy the hands-on feel of the displays and the chance to ask the volunteer stewards questions about local life. The museum is run entirely by volunteers and is open seasonally from spring to early winter, so it suits a rainy afternoon or a quiet hour between seafront visits.
