A small, free heritage attraction tucked inside the Thistles shopping centre in Stirling city centre. Visitors descend an iron spiral staircase into a surviving section of the medieval Burgh Wall, a 16th-century defensive tower, and look down into the Thieves Pot, the cell where prisoners were held. Displays set out the history of the town's defences, its tolbooth and its crime and punishment, and an audio commentary by a local storyteller brings the rooms to life. It suits children old enough to enjoy a bit of spooky history and a quick, indoor visit, and it pairs well with a wander round the Old Town. The space is enclosed and the stairs are steep, so it is best for families who are comfortable with tight, dimly lit places.
