The Leighton Library sits in the centre of Dunblane, a few steps from the cathedral and the town museum. It was founded on the books of Robert Leighton, a 17th-century bishop, and the first-floor room is still lined with its original presses holding around 4,700 volumes in many languages. Under the guidance of volunteer custodians, visitors can carefully look at some of the older books, which makes it an unusual outing for older children curious about history, old books and how libraries worked long ago. The library runs learning visits for school groups and has trails and activity sheets for children, including a minifigure trail and a 'Seek and Spot' photo activity. Admission is free, with donations welcomed. The building is small, so it suits a short visit combined with a walk around the town.
