Facilities

Dunblane Museum sits in an old listed building opposite the cathedral and fills its themed rooms with the long story of the town, from a prehistoric cannel coal necklace to medieval cathedral carvings, the 1715 Battle of Sheriffmuir, the two World Wars and the tennis successes of the Murray brothers. Families with younger children tend to enjoy the hands-on side of the visit: a knitted mice trail hides small activities beside the displays, there are stamping machines to make paper pictures, wooden blocks for building a castle, cube jigsaws and tartan dress-up clothes. Older children can compare the replica Atlantic Wall and the communion token collection with what they have learned at school. The museum is small, so a visit fits easily into a stroll around the town centre. It is run by volunteers, and the garden at the back is a pleasant place to pause.
