A miniature railway run by a model engineering society in the grounds of the historic Wortley Top Forge industrial site on the edge of South Yorkshire. Visitors can ride behind a range of steam, diesel and electric locomotives on a fully signalled track with stations and a tunnel, which gives children a real sense of a working railway. The line runs on certain afternoons through the season, so it suits a relaxed family outing rather than a fixed timetable. Adults can wander the surrounding riverside setting, bring a picnic, or stop for light refreshments from the clubroom. Younger visitors often enjoy watching the trains come and go, and the society welcomes new members who want to help with driving, signalling or maintenance. The railway pairs well with a look round the forge's water wheels and engine exhibits on the same site.
Seasonal: operates between mid-March and early November on Sunday afternoons plus some Bank Holidays.
