Danum Gallery, Library and Museum brings a town museum, an art gallery, a public library and a rail heritage centre under one roof in Doncaster city centre. Families can wander the local history displays, which run from prehistoric finds and Roman material through to later Doncaster life, and see the paintings and sculpture on the upper floors. The rail heritage area is a highlight for train-mad children, with railway memorabilia and two Doncaster-built locomotives on loan from the National Railway Museum. There is a dedicated children's library with a family storytime session, a cafe and a gift shop, and a small community garden outside. Admission is free and the building is spread over several floors served by a lift, so it suits a relaxed rainy-day visit or a short stop between other town-centre errands.
