The Vulcan Experience

The Vulcan Experience is run by the Vulcan to the Sky Trust at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, where the Avro Vulcan bomber XH558 is kept and maintained by a team of volunteers. Visits are pre-booked guided tours: an underwing tour lets visitors walk beneath the huge delta wing and look at the names carried on the aircraft, while an airside tour adds a visit to the cockpit and bomb bay. Tours begin with a short briefing at the Trust's office before a coach takes the group to the aircraft. The Trust also runs occasional family days, such as a Halloween event with a Vulcan engine run, a classic vehicle display, costumed characters and activities, where younger children can join in. Older children and teenagers with an interest in aviation tend to get the most from the guided tours, which suit a curious family rather than very young children.
