A free military history gallery on the lower ground floor of the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum in central Doncaster. The displays cover the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, from its raising in the 1750s through to its amalgamation into later regiments, using weapons, uniforms, medals, photographs and silver. Visitors can see a model of Pontefract Barracks and the Roll of Honour of the regiment's 5th Battalion. It suits older children and families with an interest in soldiers, local history or the First World War, and it pairs well with a wider visit to the rest of the building, which includes a rail heritage area and museum galleries. Because the collection is a single regimental gallery rather than a large attraction, a visit tends to be short and focused. Check ahead before travelling, as opening arrangements for the regimental gallery have changed while the building has been in use.
