Clifton Park Museum sits in Clifton House, a Georgian home on the edge of Clifton Park, close to Rotherham town centre. The galleries trace the history of the town from early times to the present day, with Roman artefacts from the local fort, a well-known collection of Rockingham pottery and porcelain, and a large Rhinoceros Vase that is a highlight for visitors. Younger visitors often head for Nelson the Lion and the Victorian rooms and kitchen, which bring daily life in the past to life. The York and Lancaster Regimental Museum is also housed in the building. Temporary exhibitions, drawing activities and school sessions run through the year. Admission is free, and the park outside has play areas, a skate park and gardens, so a visit can easily combine indoor history with outdoor space for children to run around.
