South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum

Set on the former RAF Doncaster site at Lakeside, this aviation museum brings together aircraft and helicopters from the earliest days of flight through to modern military jets. Many of the exhibits have links to the local area and nearby airfields, and the collection includes aircraft with Falklands War connections. Families can climb into selected cockpits, which are open for visitors to sit in, and browse interactive displays that run through the year. The historic hangars and wartime buildings give the visit a sense of place, and the grounds are spread out enough for a relaxed wander between exhibits. There is a shop with model kits and die-casts and indoor and outdoor seating for a break. Dogs on leads are welcome, and the museum is run largely by volunteers.
