On-site car park is currently CLOSED for safety (unpaved track, not suitable for low-clearance vehicles). Nearest parking is a short walk from the castle in Bramber village. When open: £2 for non-members, free for EH members with car sticker.

Bramber Castle is a free-to-visit English Heritage ruin: the remains of a Norman castle founded by William de Braose soon after the Norman Conquest, perched on a high natural knoll above the River Adur. There is no entrance building, shop or cafe - just the grassy, tree-topped motte with fragments of the 12th-century keep and curtain wall, and big views over the river, Bramber village and the South Downs beyond. It is an open-air, daylight-hours site: ideal for a quick leg-stretch, a picnic on the grass or a spot of castle exploration, best combined with a wander around Bramber village and nearby Steyning rather than treated as a full day out. Dogs on leads are welcome. The climb to the top is rough and uneven, so sturdy shoes are a good idea, and the on-site car park is currently closed - the nearest parking is a short walk away in the village.
