Free car and coach parking at Buckfastleigh Station, off the A38 at Dart Bridge junction. No dedicated parking at Totnes Riverside station.

Step back in time at the multi-award-winning South Devon Railway, the longest established steam railway in the south west and one of the West Country's best-loved family attractions. Travel along a seven-mile stretch of the former Great Western Railway branch line (built 1872) through the scenic River Dart valley between Buckfastleigh and Totnes, aboard beautifully restored heritage carriages. At Buckfastleigh Station families can explore the railway museum, award-winning gardens, a children's play area with miniature railway, the Gift and Model Shop and Birdies Kitchen, plus a riverside walk. Steam, Abbey & Vintage Bus Explorer and joint tickets with nearby attractions make a full day out. Each November and December the magical Polar Express Train Ride transforms the station and carriages into a festive theatrical Christmas experience with hot chocolate, cookies and the story read aboard.
Steam services run on selected days through the year. The Polar Express Train Ride (Nov-Dec) is the flagship seasonal family event.
