Spynie Palace is the largest surviving medieval bishop's house in Scotland, residence of the bishops of Moray for 500 years. Royalty travelling in the area sometimes used it as a guesthouse. The centrepiece is David's Tower, the largest surviving tower house in Scotland, with coats of arms of three bishops visible on its walls and corbels in the great hall. A path leads to the old cathedral site, where James Ramsay MacDonald, Labour's first Prime Minister, is buried. The surrounding landscape is tranquil, alive with birdsong and wildlife.
