What’s there
- Dogs welcome
Only facilities we’ve confirmed are listed — anything missing here we simply haven’t checked, rather than know to be absent.
Come and discover the world’s oldest surviving lifeboat, The Zetland. Built in 1802 by Henry Greathead at his South Shields boatyard, the Zetland saved over 500 documented lives during her 78 years of service on the treacherous Redcar coast.
The museum is housed in the original Emma boathouse on Redcar's Esplanade, where the Zetland has been displayed since 1907. Inside you'll find a fascinating collection of exhibits including models, old photographs, local maritime history and the magnificent lifeboat herself.
Entry to the museum is free with public donations welcome. The museum is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and is registered charity number 1153465. Dog friendly – well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome.
