What’s there
- Limited parking
No parking on site. Council car park behind the Thameside Complex in Cromwell Road (RM17 5HF) is free after 6pm; on-street parking in the immediate area is free after 6pm; check signs. The venue's where-to-find-us page also lists a pay and display car park at Morrisons (RM17 5YF), a five-minute walk.
Only facilities we’ve confirmed are listed — anything missing here we simply haven’t checked, rather than know to be absent.
A free museum on the first floor of the Thameside Complex in Grays, built around the history of one corner of the Thames estuary. Glass cases hold well over a thousand objects, so there is plenty to look at for a curious child, from ancient animal remains and early coins to everyday items from more recent decades. Families can trace how people lived here across very long stretches of time and compare the older finds with the newer ones. The ground floor gallery is used for temporary shows put together by local volunteers, which change over the year and give regular visitors something new. It works well as a wet-weather outing, a quick town-centre visit or a starting point for a school project on local history.
