Maldon Promenade Zoo sits within the grounds of Promenade Park on the Blackwater waterfront, so a visit fits neatly alongside a play area, splash park and riverside walk. The zoo is family-run and keeps a mixed collection of more than seventy species. Visitors can expect farm animals such as alpacas, goats, sheep and donkeys, plus parrots, meerkats, mongooses, raccoons, marmosets and a range of reptiles and creepy crawlies. Much of the collection has been rescued or rehomed, which the team talks about openly during the day. Interactive talks run through the day, covering small furry animals, reptiles, the farm animals and the meerkats, and children are encouraged to ask questions. The zoo is small enough to see in a couple of hours, which suits younger children well. It is also a popular choice for birthday parties and school visits.
Donkeys are on display in summer per the venue site; the site also lists seasonal events (Christmas, Halloween, Easter).
