Paycocke's is a half-timbered Tudor merchant's house on West Street in the village of Coggeshall, built for a wealthy cloth merchant and still full of carved woodwork, panelling and painted detail. Entry to the house is by guided tour led by volunteers, which suits children who like hearing stories about the people who lived there and spotting the carved merchant's marks. Outside, a tiered cottage garden restored in the Arts and Crafts style offers a quieter space to wander, and the tea room and garden can be visited without paying for the house. The site runs seasonal family activities and play opportunities, and there is a waymarked walk through the village that starts from the house. The house is small, so it works best as a relaxed hour or two rather than a full day out.

Closed for winter; the calendar on the venue's site showed the house, tea room and garden closed in early November 2026.
