Mangapps Railway Museum is a privately owned working railway and museum in rural Essex, run by a family with volunteer help. Visitors can ride a three-quarter-mile standard gauge passenger line behind steam and diesel locomotives, past restored stations and signal boxes brought in from across East Anglia. Alongside the running railway there is a museum collection of smaller railway relics, including a large display of signalling equipment, plus carriages and wagons to look over. It suits children who enjoy trains and old machinery and works as a relaxed half-day trip for the whole family. Trains run on the published open days, so families should check the calendar before setting out.
Open weekends and school holidays; end-of-season gala in late October/early November.
