Brightlingsea Museum tells the story of this Essex coastal town, from its shipbuilding and fishing roots and oyster trade to its links with the Cinque Ports and its wartime past. The museum sits on one level in purpose-built premises on Station Road, so it suits pushchairs and wheelchairs as well as older children. Younger visitors can follow the Bricklesey Mouse Trail, while families and adults can take the Town Heritage Trail. There are interactive displays, a dinosaur activity for children, and a changing programme of temporary exhibitions. A small beach hut souvenir shop sells gifts. Admission is free and run by volunteers, with donations welcomed. Schools and groups can visit by arrangement. The museum is a relaxed indoor option for a rainy or cooler day, and it works well alongside a walk on the beach or promenade nearby.
