Hedingham Castle is a 900-year-old Norman keep set in landscaped gardens, woodland and lakeside walks in the village of Castle Hedingham. The keep is climbed over several floors, with a great hall and a banqueting hall, so it suits older children who enjoy history and exploring. Families with younger children often come for the grounds, which have easy paths, space for a picnic and a lake to walk around. The estate runs a seasonal programme of medieval jousts, archery, falconry, outdoor theatre and festive trails, and it welcomes school groups for educational visits. Well-behaved dogs on leads are allowed in the grounds, though not inside the castle. The castle is still a family home, so opening is limited to selected dates and event days, and the castle stairs are steep with no lift.
General Admission closed for the rest of 2026 per official site; events continue through the winter. Earlier seasons ran Easter to October on selected dates.
