Great Lines Heritage Park is a linked network of open spaces that takes in old military earthworks, Fort Amherst, the Lower Lines and the Chatham Naval Memorial. It is an open-access park, so families can come and go at any time and explore on foot or by bike. Cycle routes and nature walks run through the grassland, and there is a wildflower area, which suits relaxed walks and outings. Older children may enjoy the historic fortifications and the wide views over Chatham and the River Medway. The park has no play area of its own, so it suits families who like to walk, cycle and explore rather than those looking for play equipment. It is also home to a weekly free parkrun, which draws many families and young runners on Saturday mornings.
