Whitstable Castle sits on Tower Hill above the seafront, between the town and the Tankerton slopes. Its grounds are a free public park with formal beds, wide lawns and walks, and there is a play park where younger children can run about. The Orangery and Wynn Ellis tearooms serve breakfast and lunch, and the castle hosts seasonal events through the year, including trails and fairs in the school holidays and a Christmas Santa grotto. Dogs on leads are welcome in the gardens and outdoor tearoom seating, though not in the play area or the orangery. Families can combine a stroll through the gardens with a bite to eat, and the castle suits a relaxed half-day rather than a long action-packed visit. Parking is on site, with Blue Badge spaces near the main entrance.
