East Kent Railway is a volunteer-run heritage line in the Kent countryside, with its base at Shepherdswell station near Dover. Visitors ride preserved trains along a short route through the village and out towards Eythorne, through rural scenery that was once part of the local coalfield. The site is more than a train ride. There is a visitor centre in a preserved signal box, a small museum, a model railway, and two miniature railways with ride-on trains for younger children. A woodland area with walking routes adds space to stretch legs between rides, and there is a cafe on site. The railway holds special events through the year and takes party bookings, so it suits families with young children, school-age visitors and rail enthusiasts alike. Trains and attractions run on a seasonal pattern, so it is worth checking the calendar before travelling.
