Gunton Park Sawmill is a historic working sawmill set in the grounds of the Gunton Park estate in north Norfolk. Built in the 1820s to cut timber for the estate, it is powered by water from a nearby pond and still shows a vertical framesaw in operation when it opens. The thatched building is a rare survivor, so it suits families who enjoy seeing how things were made by machinery before modern power tools. Volunteers are on hand to explain how the wheels, belts and saw work, which helps children follow the process from log to plank. The site is a short walk from the entrance and is best combined with a stroll around the surrounding estate and pond. Visits happen only on a small number of advertised open afternoons through the year, so families should check the dates before setting out.
