Stalham Firehouse Museum sits in a very small listed building in the market town of Stalham on the edge of the Norfolk Broads. It is run by volunteers as a small charity and presents the history of the local fire brigade, which the museum says has a long continuous record. The main draw is a horse-drawn fire pump from 1881, and there are historical photographs, fire-fighting objects and displays on the town's past. Children can have their photograph taken with a fire helmet, have a go at ringing the bells, and try a quiz on site, and there is an activity book to take away. The rooms are compact, so the visit suits a short, curious look rather than a long stay. Families often combine it with the nearby Museum of the Broads on Stalham Staithe and a stop for refreshments on the High Street. Opening is limited to a few weekday mornings, so check ahead before travelling.
