Cromer Museum occupies a row of late nineteenth-century fishermen's cottages in the centre of the North Norfolk seaside town, grouped around a small courtyard. Inside, a geology gallery focuses on the fossils found along the local coastline, including bones from the West Runton mammoth and a cast of a marine reptile skull, which give younger visitors something concrete to look at. Furnished Victorian domestic rooms show how people lived in the cottages, and the Old Cromer gallery holds a large archive of historic photographs of the resort. Exhibits also cover the town's fishing heritage and its rise as a fashionable Victorian resort. The museum is small enough for a relaxed visit of an hour or so, and the education room suits school groups. A small shop sells pocket-money items. It suits families on a rainy afternoon, curious older children and anyone who wants to learn about the Cromer coast before heading to the beach.
Open seasonally (spring to autumn), not year-round.
