Facilities

We haven’t checked this venue’s facilities yet. Give them a ring if something specific matters for your visit.

A small, volunteer-run museum in a Georgian building on London Street, telling the social history of Swaffham and the villages around it from the Stone Age to the present. Displays cover local archaeology, the town's pedlar legend, and the Egyptologist Howard Carter, who has local roots. Other rooms look at the town's workhouse, a wartime room, and local posters and stories. Children and carers are admitted free, so it suits a rainy-day stop or a short visit alongside a stroll around Swaffham's market-town centre. A gift shop sits at the entrance and the museum also offers a schools and group service. Because the building is Georgian, wheelchair access stops at the ground floor, so families with buggies or mobility needs should check ahead. Opening is limited to set weekday and Saturday hours, with a winter closed season.

Questions parents ask

Is it manageable with a toddler and older children?
The Museum is housed in a Georgian building with limited accessibility above ground floor. We haven't confirmed whether the layout works well for buggies or younger visitors, so you may want to contact them before visiting with a toddler and other children at the same time.
Which ages get the most out of it?
The Museum covers social history from the Stone Age to modern day and offers an educational service, suggesting it suits school-age children and older. However, typical age recommendations aren't recorded, so contact the Museum to find out what would suit your family best.
Is there anywhere to eat?
We haven't confirmed a café at the Museum. However, there is a Gift Shop in the entrance, and you may want to check with them about refreshment facilities or whether a picnic would be suitable.
Do we need to book, or can we turn up?
Regular opening hours are available for walk-in visits. The Museum does offer guided tours by appointment and welcomes group visits, so you can choose to book ahead or drop in during standard hours.
